Step 1 Know Your Fear

1. Work out what it is you fear

I would very much want to go to ESCAPE THEME PARK and try out all the rides. But the one and only thing that is stopping me from going is that i have acrophobia and aeroacrophobia which is the fear of heights and fear of high open spaces. Standing on the roof top alone is already enough to make my legs shiver and heart rate increase. Let alone turning rounds hundred metres away from ground.

2. Identify the triggers of your fear

When i'm standing at high places even with support, i'll feel an adrenaline rush and my hands will feel a very numb feeling like i'm feeling now. Just by thinking that i'm on very high places will make me feel afraid. The rides in the theme park will be an absolute challenge because the ups and downs of the rides will give me a very weird feeling in the heart. It feels like my heart has sank down and it feels somehow itchy.

3. Be aware of your fear-driven responses

i. Physical Signs of Fear

When i'm afraid,

-my face feels a tinge of numbness
-i will be lost for words
-my limbs go soft
-heart punds faster

ii. Negative Feelings, Thoughts and Behaviours

When i experience fear, the first thing my body tells me is to get out of the situation that makes me feel afraid. If the situation does not allow me to be away from the position, i will make use of breathing exercise to calm down and control my emotions. It is easiest to break down in the face of fear and that would be the last thing i would ever want it to happen. In times of exams, when bad time management and the lack of revising combines, it gives rise to fear; the fear of not able to finish the paper and the fear of not doing well. When this occurs, i will make myself think on the bright side " Never mind if i fail. There's still another chance. The most retake". I will always think of ways to make myself get out of the bad situation by being optimistic and keping my emotions in control.

Step 2 Commit to Mastering Your Fear

1. State your goal(s) for mastering your fear

I think the only way to conqure fear is to face it. Avoiding it may seem the best solution at the point of time, however, long term wise, its best to overcome it better than avoiding again when in face with it. The only possible solution for my fear of heights will be to face it. Which means i will have to go on for one of the rides and come face to face with my fear. If i really do manage to conquere aerocrophobia and acrophobia, i can join in the fun with my daredevil friends and i think i'll be a very great acomplishment because the fears has been with me for as long as i can remember.
